Dermal Fillers: What Exactly Is A Filler?

Here’s The Thing About Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers help reverse aging. Aging is volume loss in your face and as your facial tissues thin out over time, those pesky wrinkles and lines become more prominent. If you’re looking a little hollow, consider trying dermal fillers which simply replace lost volume to smooth out wrinkles and make you look and feel younger.

What Is A Dermal Filler?

Dermal fillers are injectable gel like substances that are soft and inserted just under your skin. At MGMD Aesthetics we only use fillers made with Hyaluronic Acid(HA). There are two reasons we only use these fillers:

Safety
Your body naturally produces hyaluronic acid therefore we know it is safe to be injected under your skin. The other reason it is safe is sue to reversibility. This is extremely important. Because your body makes HA, it also makes an enzyme that hydrolyzes or dissolves it. At MGMD Aesthetics, we have this enzyme readily available in case of a bad outcome or complication. Although it is extremely rare that we would use it, it is important to have on hand and any place that does filler injections MUST have it in the office at all times.

Quality of results

We live in an exciting age of technology and HA fillers are no exception. We keep approximately 10 different HA fillers at all times due to their specific structural characteristics. We use a very firm, structural filler for cheek volume that allows us to actually use less filler to get the desired result. We would not want to use something firm and structural in the lips where we use a filler that is more squishy, flexible and “juicy” for nice lips. By the same logic we would not use either of those under the eye where we need a thinner, more subtle result.

Fillers last approximately 9-18 months. Although for the right filler in the right place on the right person could last 2-3 years. Brand names include the Restylane® and the Juvederm® family of products.

A Face Filler Is Good For:

  • Replacing or enhancing volume in
  • Cheekbones
  • Chin
  • Jawline
  • Lips
  • Around the mouth/marionette lines
  • Hands
  • Temples
  • Filling lines in
  • Lines between the nose and mouth (nasolabial fold)
  • Fine lines around the lips
  • Under eye

Are Botox & Dermal Fillers The Same Thing?

No, Botox is not the same as facial fillers. Botox is much more temporary than more long term options like fillers. Botox is also less expensive and you go less often. Fillers make your face appear more full and Botox makes features more firm. Both are injected just under your skin. Both are proven to be very safe.

Facial Fillers Are Safe

Dermal fillers are an excellent way to look younger without being extreme as surgery or more permanent options plus there’s no down time. Don’t worry if you don’t like the way the facial filler looks on you. They can be adjusted or if there’s a very rare reaction, you can reverse the procedure instantly.

It’s Smart To Start With A Free Consultation

Fillers are not just about the brand name. You also need a trained professional to know where to apply and how much facial filler you need. Experience is key when knowing exactly where and how deep to inject the dermal fillers. Make sure to bring your questions and you can also request before and after photos.
